Fernandez's unassisted double play
There may have been a time, before limits were placed on infield shifts, where this Jose Fernandez play might have been more routine. Instead, the 20-year-old shortstop was able to show off his quick reflexes and athleticism on a diving, unassisted double play for High-A Hillsboro.
Fabian's flying grab
Jud Fabian is known for his light-tower power. But the Orioles' No. 13 prospect is also a gifted outfielder defensively. The-23-year-old goes a very long way into the gap in right to track this fly ball to the wall, then makes a perfectly timed leaping grab to get the out for Double-A Bowie.
Crews picks it off the ground
Dylan Crews' center field defense is among the reasons he is the highest ranked prospect currently in the Minors. This
De Vries shows off the range
Leodalis De Vries was the top-ranked International prospect of his class, in part because of his above-average defense. The 17-year-old put that ability on display for Single-A Lake Elsinore, making this brilliant, over-the-shoulder sliding catch. De Vries also made this diving grab just this week.
Pitelli's pretty play
Everything about this play is visually appealing -- from Rhett Lowder's bouncy flow to the fountain-like, synchronized dives from the middle infielders. Shortstop Dominic Pitelli ends up with the ball in his glove, and he finishes off the play with an on-target throw from one knee to get the out for Double-A Chattanooga.
