In celebration of Women's Equality Day on August 26th, the Portland Sea Dogs will host their annual Women in Sports Day, presented by Empeople Credit Union, on Thursday, August 22nd at 6:00 PM when the Sea Dogs host the Somerset Patriots (Yankees) at Hadlock Field.
The event will be highlighted by a Mackenzie Holmes bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans to enter the ballpark. The gates open at 4:30 PM. Holmes is a Gorham native who is the all-time leading scorer in Indiana women's basketball program history. She was selected in the 3rd round (26th overall) by the Seattle Storm.
Before the game, Holmes will take part in a women in sports panel and a question and answer session with fans hosted by Sea Dogs' radio broadcasters Emma Tiedemann and Rylee Pay. The event will take place at 4:30 PM at the Horch Roofing Stage located on the front plaza at Hadlock Field.
Also taking part in the women in sports discussion will be Maine author Danette Laver. Laver is the author of Chasing Aces a book inspired by Edith Houghton, the pioneering first female scout in Major League Baseball History. You can order a copy of the book by visiting danettelaver.com.
Maine Needs Donation Drive
Additionally, the Sea Dogs have partnered with Maine Needs for a donation drive. Among the products that are requested are socks and hygiene products (deodorant, pads, tampons, etc). Items can be dropped off at the front gate at the game. Everyone who donates an item will receive a ticket voucher for an upcoming game.
Mackenzie Holmes will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
